DISTRICT REPRESENTATIVE, WILLIAM WORKMAN, ON OVERBURDENED ROUTES
Please look at the attached from the (RCAM) Rural Contract Administrative Manual page 33. Contractual Article 9.2.C.8
There seems to be misunderstanding in the state for 5-day work week evaluated hours versus 6-day work weeks standard hour entitlement.
- When an overburdened route works 5 days in a service week, the evaluated hours are used to calculate whether the carrier is owed additional compensation per the step 4 National grievance. If you are working over 48 hours and are overburdened, a grievance should be filed so we can attempt to get the carrier paid per the step 4 if settled in our favor.
If the carrier does not file a grievance and we win the step 4, they will not be compensated for work hours more than 48 hours for 5 days of work.
- When the carrier works 6 days, the standard work hours are used to calculate compensation owed. Anything worked over 57.36 should be compensated using the standard hours for the route.
Example: 5 days is 48 hours evaluated time.
Add 48 hours + sixth day of 9.60 hours. 4-digit decimal points are used. If done on a calculator it comes to 57.60
Because 4 decimal points are used the number comes out to be 57.36
