NRLCA PRES. STUTTS COMMENTS ON THE PASSING OF REP. ELIJAH CUMMINGS

Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD), chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, has died from complications of long-term health issues. He was 68 years old.

The House committee he ran is charged with oversight of the Postal Service, among many other responsibilities.

Cummings had long championed postal reform and supported postal legislation throughout his career, including as a co-sponsor of the most-recent anti-privatization measure in the 116th Congress (H.Res.33). He also adamantly opposed the healthcare pre-funding mandate imposed by Congress in 2006.

“Representative Cummings was a tireless fighter for all postal employees and always sought to improve working conditions while modernizing and reforming the Postal Service. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and we would like to extend our deepest sympathies to them at this time,” said NRLCA President Ronnie Stutts.
